Genetic parameter estimates for male and female fertility traits using genomic data to improve fertility in Australian beef cattle

چکیده

Context Studies have shown that favourable genetic correlations exist between female and male fertility traits. However, investigations regarding these in Australian tropical beef cattle are limited to either pedigree or single-breed analysis. Aim The study aims use genomic information estimate parameters of six seven traits measured during the first 2 years life, two breeds. Methods Single-, bivariate multi-trait models were used analyse data from Brahman (BB; 996 cows 1022 bulls); Tropical Composite (TC; 1091 998 bulls) genotyped with high-density single-nucleotide polymorphism chip assay. Key results Heritability estimates BB ranged low (0.07 ± 0.04) for days calving at opportunity (DC1, days) high (0.57 0.08) age corpus luteum (AGECL, days). In bulls, varied (0.09 0.05) sperm motility (score 1–5) (0.64 0.06) scrotal circumference (SC) 24 months (SC24, cm). Similarly, heritability TC (0.04 0.03) DC1 (0.69 0.02) AGECL. was 0.07) SC24. Within-sex both breeds, blood concentrations insulin growth-factor 1 (IGF1) 18 (IGF1c) negatively correlated phenotypes. BB, across-sex, bulls’ concentration IGF1 6 (IGF1b) a good indicator trait following four traits: AGECL, postpartum anoestrus interval, DC1. TC, IGF1b percentage normal predictors Conclusions present generally support confirmed earlier analyses. findings suggest selection will benefit fertility, vice versa. Implications we can select early benefits within across sex. Using available through veterinary assessment bull as indicators enhance cow which lead better breeding rates herds.

Using Male Performance to Improve Genomic Selection for Female Fertility in Brahman Cattle

Genomic selection offers the opportunity to improve female fertility in the Northern Australian beef herd. However, genomic predictions for a number of female fertility traits derived solely from the small number of female fertility records collected thus far are only of modest accuracy. In this study measures of Brahman male reproduction were used jointly with the female records, increasing th...

Variance component estimation on female fertility traits in beef cattle

The purpose of this review is to define possible breeding objectives for Southern African beef cattle farmers and to review different means of expressing genetic reproductive merit. The breeding objective considered was to maximize the number of calves born or weaned for a given number of cows in a herd under prevailing environmental and management conditions. This is a complex trait that has m...

Estimates of genetic parameters for fertility traits of Australian Holstein-Friesian cattle

Fertility data collected on 17131 Holstein-Friesian cows from 158 dairy herds in Australia were used to estimate heritabilities for and correlations among several fertility traits using a sire model. Pregnancy rate (PR), survival (Surv), calving interval (CI), calving to first service interval (CFS), insemination rate (coded as 1 if a cow received a service or 0 otherwise) (InsemR) and first se...

Estimates of Genetic Parameters for Fertility Traits of Italian Holstein-friesian Cattle

Data from insemination and calving events of Italian Holstein cows and heifers collected from January 1996 until December 2002 were used to estimate phenotypic and genetic parameter for some fertility traits. A validation procedure of the data based on gestation length and information on service sire was used. According to these procedure, in Italy 75.9 % of the calvings are associated to servi...

Genetic Parameter Estimates of Carcass Traits under National Scale Breeding Scheme for Beef Cattle

Carcass and price traits of 72,969 Hanwoo cows, bulls and steers aged 16 to 80 months at slaughter collected from 2002 to 2013 at 75 beef packing plants in Korea were analyzed to determine heritability, correlation and breeding value using the Multi-Trait restricted maximum likelihood (REML) animal model procedure. The traits included carcass measurements, scores and grades at 24 h postmortem a...
